So I'm hanging out at Tar-Zhay, and I notice that they have fewer TVs on display than previously, and I think, "Hm. Maybe we've reached a point where everybody has multiple TVs and people are just buying fewer of them."
Then I notice that they have cleared out display space for an entirely new category of TV accessories: TV FRAMES.
The ones here are exclusively for a specific line of Samsung TVs, branded as The Frame TV: "TV when it's on, art when it's off." Apparently, there's a 3-way partnership between Samsung, Hearth & Hand (the frame makers), and Target - you can't buy these anywhere else, folks!
I have no idea of whether or not anyone will copycat them. In fact, I have no idea whether they will sell well enough for Samsung to keep up the partnership.
But as someone with fond memories of televisions as really nice pieces of furniture, I like the idea of stepping up from the minimalism of the bare screen.
Salute to whoever came up with the idea!
