Fortune cookie, 1/31/2012

I'm just finishing lunch at China Buffet. Today's fortune:
Happiness is activity.
I consider that imprecise; it would be too easy for someone employing the commutative principle to conclude (as many unthinkingly do) that activity is happiness, only to be heartbroken by the discovery that it isn't. Sometimes it's just...activity.
However, I agree wholeheartedly with what I think this is supposed to mean: that happiness requires activity, that it is not found in perpetual idleness. I am all in favor of at least a once-weekly day off, and of a well-done vacation. But I think the idea that perpetual idleness is either good or desirable is daft.
