YouTube Finds

I am inordinately fond of YouTube. That may not always be so - Google has already made changes that I don't care for. But for now, it still delights that part of me that delights in random and serendipitous discoveries, in following forking trails to arrive in unexpected places. Here's a few things I've found there:

January 28, 2014

This man is my hero. That is all.

Say you feel like quitting? Say that thing you're trying to do is just too hard? You've tried, and tried, and it's just not working?

When I was a kid, a coach or a dad or a good friend might respond to such sighing and crying with, "What are you, a man or a mouse?"

Time for a new question.

October 4, 2013:

I should do this more often. I don't remember when something that somebody posted led to to this: 100+ Japanese musicians playing Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" on theremins inside nesting dolls.

How does that even happen?

April 3, 2013:

Just for laughs...

Gollum vs. Smeagol Rap Battle

Exactly what it sounds like.

I came across that one on the related-videos menu that came up after I had watched this one:

The First Honest Cable Company (warning: NSFW language)

Sound like any cable company you know?

Both of the above were produced by Extremely Decent Films - here's their YouTube channel.

November 19, 2012:

The Puff Daddy/Sting/Faith Evans tribute to Notorious B.I.G. (1997)

I don't know how I wound up watching MTV's Video Music Awards in 1997. I was not an MTV fan. Nor was I a hiphop fan, so I wasn't really familiar with either Puff Daddy or Notorious B.I.G. But this performance captivated me, fascinated me and touched me.

Cyndi Lauper/Patti Labelle - Time After Time (1985)
This was part of another TV special that I have no idea how I wound up watching. A magical performance by two women whom I would never have associated with each other.
